19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This represents his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after spring of that year.

The win also means the Russian has secured 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had led some to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
